From time to time, we like to reach out to our users and find out how we can do better to serve them. Our software has been repeatedly updated and new features have been implemented in response to user feedback. We have also had unsolicited constructive criticism on how to improve our tinnitus tuner, which has been very helpful in planning our eventual update to the tuner (which is a difficult problem from many angles).

Our question to you is: what feature can we add to AudioNotch to make it work better?

Alternatively, would you like to see AudioNotch develop mobile versions … Continue Reading

Existing Epilepsy Drug Could Treat Acute Tinnitus

Scientific research into tinnitus continues to yield fruitful results. The pathophysiology of tinnitus has been studied from many directions and conceptualized in many ways. An interested approach has been taken at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine:
The team focused on an area of the brain that is home to an important auditory center called the dorsal cochlear nucleus (DCN). From previous research in a mouse model, they knew that tinnitus is associated with hyperactivity of DCN cells — they fire impulses even when there is no actual sound to perceive. For the new experiments, they … Continue Reading

Drug to Treat Acute Tinnitus Moving Forward in Approval Process

Written by AudioNotch Team on June 06, 2013

Here at AudioNotch, we strongly believe in the promise of science for treating tinnitus. In terms of “curative” therapies – and we use the term “tinnitus cure” very carefully – a good target for pharmacological therapy is the brain shortly after the development of acute changes (before the neurological changes become more permanent).

Promising European research indicates that human experiments are moving forward for such a drug:
The Basel, Switzerland-based firm plans to start recruiting 600 patients with acute peripheral tinnitus into two placebo-controlled Phase III trials, one each on either side of the Atlantic, later this year. “We’re currently … Continue Reading

The American Tinnitus Association (by far the leading nonprofit group with respect to tinnitus advocacy) continues to promote awareness of this condition by organizing events in the United States. From a press release on the subject:
PORTLAND, Ore., April 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The American Tinnitus Association (ATA) announced today that National Tinnitus Awareness Week (TAW) will be celebrated May 19 – 25, 2013. This year, ATA is saluting members of the United States military and all our veterans who have selflessly served, because they suffer from tinnitus disproportionately from the rest of the civilian population. For the past five years, … Continue Reading

New Vagal Nerve Therapy for Tinnitus Study Approved

Written by AudioNotch Team on April 23, 2013

Categories: Announcement Tinnitus

Interesting news on new tinnitus therapy research: a study has been approved in Texas to test the efficacy of vagal nerve therapy (which we’ve written about before) with respect to tinnitus treatment.
The therapeutic approach developed at UT Dallas pairs audible tones with brief pulses of electrical stimulation to the vagus nerve. Preclinical tests demonstrated that this approach “rewires” damaged brain circuitry associated with tinnitus, potentially yielding long-term reversal of symptoms. No device-related adverse events were seen in the initial human safety study conducted in Belgium, and the initial results were encouraging.*
Vagal Nerve Therapy is one of … Continue Reading

Are AudioNotch’s Prices Unethical?

Here’s an e-mail we received from a user who was upset about what we charge for our tinnitus treatment service:
Hello,

I want to know and understand why you charge so much for this treatment?
I understand that developing etc. has cost you time and probably some money, but nowhere even close to what you are charging.

250$ / year is rather insane and most of the people in dire need of treatment can’t even hold down a job due to their endless suffering.
Obviously if you were guaranteed to have your tinnitus reduces to a loudness that doesn’t bother you, then a one time … Continue Reading

AudioNotch and the Potential Risk of Temporary Increases in Tinnitus Loudness

Written by AudioNotch Team on February 26, 2013

In rare cases, listening to Tailor-Made Notched Sound Therapy can temporarily increase the baseline volume of your tinnitus.

Your “baseline” tinnitus volume is the volume of your tinnitus at rest with no external sound input other than ambient noise from a regular environment.

There are multiple possible explanations:

1. Incorrect detection of tinnitus frequency, resulting in a “Notch” that does not overlay the user’s actual tinnitus frequency.

2. Listening to Notched Sound Therapy at an unsafe volume level (exceeding 85 dB), as any loud noise can exacerbate tinnitus if it is too loud.

3. Some users have correctly detected their tinnitus frequency and listen at … Continue Reading
